Brush Fire Breaks Out On Glendale And Eagle Rock Border
About 100 homes were evacuated late Sunday afternoon, after a brush fire broke out near the interchange of the 2 and 134 freeways on the border of Glendale and Eagle Rock. The fire was first reported shortly after 4 p.m. along the north side of the 134 Freeway near the 2900 block of West Colorado Boulevard, according to Los Angeles fire officials. Both the 2 and 134 freeways were shut down in the area and about 265 firefighters were dispatched to quell the flames. Within a few hours, the fire had spread to about 30 acres. By 7:35 p.m., forward progress had stopped and the flames were 25% contained. Glendale officials issued mandatory evacuations for residents on both sides of Glenoaks Canyon and "all arterial streets pictured in the map" below.
An evacuation shelter was set up at the Glendale Civic Auditorium at 1401 N. Verdugo Rd. Glendale officials advised those with questions about the shelter to call (818) 937-7444.
No structures were damaged, and no injuries were reported.
Eyewitnesses said the fire spread from the onramp for the northbound 2 Freeway to the eastbound 134 Freeway, and then jumped the freeway, burning brush on the north side.

Smoke could be seen across the region, as far as northern Orange County, and air quality north of the fire was poor.
